Make New Friends at the Workshop
We make it easy for you to get to know people.
The workshop is a series of fun, structured activities. We pair you up with people who have similar interests, and you’ll talk about yourself and topics that we supply.
You’ll spend 25% of the time learning conversation skills and how to make friends, and 75% practicing what you just learned.
Each time, we’ll cover a slightly different set of skills, so you can come back again and again, and gradually develop friendships.
The Expats Making Friends workshops are a fun night out, design to build a community of friends, and come back regularly. The content of the workshops may evolve to reflect the interests of each particular community.
Learn conversation skills,
so that people will
want to be your friend.
Learn New Skills to Help You Make Friends
We want you to be able to make friends wherever you go!
We give you tips and advice on various strategies and skills that you can use outside the workshop to make it easier to build lasting friendships.
Building good friendships is a process with many stages, and requiring a variety of skills—there are many links in the chain, and you’re only as strong as your weakest link.
Steps in the process of making friends
Learn to be better at each step.
- Find new people.
New people don’t just turn up at your home, so where can you go to meet new people? - Make contact with new people.
Once you’re in the same room with new people, you have to start a conversation. Many people find this to be the hardest step. - Have a good conversation.
You need to do more than just introduce yourself. Learn how to keep a conversation going and how to make it interesting. - Turn acquaintances into friends
It’s almost like dating. You’ve met someone you like, now you have to follow up and meet them again, and again. - Maintain friendships
Being a friend is not just about talking, it’s also important to be a good listener.
Become more confident
and feel comfortable
in a greater range of situations.
