A personal development coach helps you create a more enjoyable and fulfilling life.
Become the best version of yourself: confident, relaxed, powerful, successful, with good communication and relationship skills; feel good about yourself, and have peace of mind and happiness.
How do you create the life you want? As a personal development coach, I will help guide you through the jungle of life’s options, so that you have greater clarity and direction. I will help you identify what’s really holding you back—the underlying causes—and the steps you can take to improve your life.
A holistic approach
I’m slightly different to the average personal development coach or life coach, because I help you with much more than just surface level aspects, such as career or other short-term goals. I call this ‘enlightened personal development‘ because I tend to focus on deeper aspects of who you are as a person, in order to help you fulfil your potential. I help you achieve the deeper goals of self-confidence, peace of mind, happiness etc. Of course, I will also help you with the surface level goals along the way.
How Can A Personal Development Coach Help?
The four main ways that a personal development coach can help you are :
Resolve your high priority issues.
We’ll tackle your most important issues from two angles:
- The surface level
We’ll figure out what actions you can take to bring about the biggest improvement in the short term. - The deeper level
We’ll discover if there’s a deeper cause of the issue, and whether it’s causing other issues. We’ll set about fixing the cause, so that it doesn’t create more issues in the future.
See issues that are in your blind spot.
A personal development coach can help you see the situation from a more objective perspective, and help you
identify opportunities and issues that you are unaware of.
- When you’ve lived with an issue for a long time it may become invisible to you.
- Or you may see it but think it’s normal—that it’s ‘the best way’, or ‘the only way’.
- Or you might see it in a distorted way, because you’re too close to the situation to see it clearly.
Find opportunities for improvement—not just fix problems
Therapists focus on fixing problems. And most people only use personal development to fix areas of their life in which they’re underperforming, and once they’ve achieved ‘normal’ they stop.
You can be much more than ‘normal’.
I’m more like a sporting coach. I do two things:
- I help you fix problems, and
- I help you keep improving in all areas, so that you can fulfil your potential.
Stay focused on improving your life.
Life is complicated, busy, and filled with distractions. As a coach, I will help you stay focused on taking the little steps that keep you improving. We’ll make a plan, and figure out ways to build your action steps into your routine. Having a scheduled meeting with your coach also motivates you to take action and stop endlessly kicking the can down the road.
Some of what’s offered in personal and spiritual development is shiny and enticing but is a completely unnecessary waste of your time and money. I can help you avoid these entertaining distractions and keep you focused on the things that are going to deliver the most benefit and progress.
What Will My Personal Development Coaching Sessions Look Like?
A series of coaching sessions is best
A series of weekly, fortnightly or monthly coaching sessions is significantly more effective than one-off sessions, because a coach gets to know you, what your real issues are, and which strategies work best for you. With time, your coach may see issues that you’re unaware of, or a deeper issue that’s causing your surface level issues.
SOELmethod Self-awareness Questionnaire
Before you start a series of coaching sessions, you’ll complete a set of questionnaires that help you and the coach understand your issues and their causes. This fast-track approach allows us to be more efficient in sessions, by spending less time searching for problems, and more time on solutions. The SOELmethod Self-awareness Questionnaire has two parts:
- Standard psychological questionnaires
These questionnaires identify personality traits, levels of depression, anxiety, etc. The most important is the Five Factor Personality Profile, which gives insight into your genetic character traits, so that we can be look for issues that are often caused by certain personality traits. It will also help us identify which strategies are most likely to work for you. - History and beliefs questionnaire
This questionnaire has been developed by SOELmethod as an efficient way of discovering which of the factors that commonly affect a person’s psychological development are applicable to you. It includes questions about your history, such as: whether your parents divorced, whether you were bullied at school, how many siblings you have etc. There are also questions about your beliefs about yourself and life.
Identify your high priority issues
In our first session together, we will discuss your questionnaire answers, and also make a list of issues and prioritize them. The high priority issues usually include a mix of short-term and long-term issues. While the short term issues aren’t always the most important in the grand scheme of things, they can serve to give you a quick ‘win’. These ‘quick wins’ will boost your confidence and motivate you to tackle the long-term issues. In subsequent, sessions we will review your progress on each issue, and reprioritize them when appropriate.
Discuss high priority issues.
In every coaching session, we will review each of your high priority issues and discuss anything related to those issues that happened since the previous session. We’ll discuss: how you handled it, what you learned from it, and what could be done differently next time. The fortnightly review of issues makes them more prominent in your mind so that you keep working on improving them between sessions.
Answers and advice
I will do my best to answer your questions about life, personal development and spirituality. I am a personal development coach who can help you gain clarity by identifying issues and beliefs, and for many of them I can teach you techniques that will help you deal with them yourself, but when it comes to dealing with deeply traumatic emotional issues, I will recommend that you seek help from a qualified psychotherapist.
How Many Personal Development Coaching Sessions Do You Need?
That depends on your issues, abilities, and motivation levels. And it especially depends on what your goal is:
- Some people just want improvement on one particular issue.
- Most people will want to deal with the handful of high priority issues that are causing them the most suffering. Once they have improved those issues, and created a reasonably enjoyable life for themselves, they are happy to sit on that plateau for the rest of their lives.
- A few of the most motivated people will want to go as far as possible—to ‘enlightenment’, ‘awakening’, ‘self-realization’ or whatever you want to call it.
Do You Work With Everyone/Anyone?
No. There are some people that I don’t take on as clients.
- Deep depression
If you have had deep depression or suicidal thoughts in the past 2 years, then my heart goes out to you, but unfortunately, I’m not the right person to be working with you. - Psychosis, Schizophrenia etc.
If you have, or have had, any mental issues that caused you to have a distorted perception of reality, then unfortunately, it’s too dangerous for you to work with me. - Severe childhood abuse
If you have experienced severe childhood abuse, then I can only work with you if you have already worked through most of the trauma with a qualified therapist, and I can get a verbal confirmation from the therapist that they think it’s okay to coach you.

FIVE & TEN SESSION PACKAGES
You will complete the SOELmethod Self-awareness Questionnaire before the first session, and then instead of attending the first session, I will use that first session time to read through your answers, and I will probably email you with some clarification questions, and then I will start formulating a rough plan.
SINGLE COACHING SESSION
New clients who book a Single Coaching Session will not be sent the SOELmethod Self-awareness Questionnaire, and therefore, the whole experience will be quite different to what happens when you purchase a Five or Ten Coaching Session Package. Single Coaching Sessions are suitable for:
- New clients who:
- Intend buying a Five or Ten Coaching Session Package but first want to ‘get a feel for me’ and ask a few questions before they commit.
- Have a particular question or issue that they would like some advice on.
- Old clients who want to occasionally pop back in and get some advice whenever something comes up.
Book a Session
If you’re interested in booking a coaching session or a package, then please complete the form below to let me know the days and times that you are available to attend sessions. I will check my schedule to see if I have a free slot during any of those times and will get back to you.
If I’m fully booked during those times, I can put you on the waiting list and let you know when an opening arises.
